Spotify is taking your party playlists to the next level with the launch of an exciting feature called “Jam.” This innovative addition is geared towards Premium users, making it a breeze for friends and family to collaboratively curate the perfect playlist in real time, regardless of whether they’re in the same room or miles apart. And here’s the kicker: while only Premium subscribers can kickstart a Jam session, it’s an all-inclusive experience, welcoming both paying and non-paying Spotify users.
To embark on a Jam session, simply tap the speaker icon at the bottom of Spotify’s interface and choose the ‘Start a Jam’ option. You can also find this choice in the three-dots menu next to songs and playlists. The app takes care of the rest, automatically prompting fellow Spotify users sharing your Wi-Fi network to join the musical adventure. Joining a Jam is a breeze – guests can hop on board by scanning the QR code displayed on the host’s device, or Premium users can send out invites through the share sheet.
Spotify’s blog post announcing Jam sums it up beautifully: “Simply invite your squad, and Jam will help you find the perfect songs to add to the queue, finding the overlaps in your listening preferences to deliver music recommendations that everyone will love.”
Once the Jam is underway, everyone involved has the power to contribute to the shared queue. However, by default, only the host has the authority to rearrange songs or remove tracks that aren’t vibing with the party mood. Fear not, for the guest controls feature steps in, allowing participants to share in the arrangement duties.
With Jam, Spotify is turning your music sessions into a collaborative and dynamic experience, where friends and family can seamlessly contribute to the soundtrack of your moments together. It’s a real-time party playlist builder that keeps the music flowing and the good times rolling.
